You can switch off images if you don't want to see them (go to Settings (top of the page) > General Settings). 'All this red"? Isn't the page white with pale tinted boxes and narrow red bands? In due time there will be a bit of new page design, but this was a simple, quickly produced at short notice, template which reflected the red of the old R3 boards.

There is an option to allow users to choose from a selection (currently 2) of templates, but it's disabled at the moment.

... at least they now provide food on "Breakfast" - I see from the playlist for this morning [23-xii-10] "Franz Schubert — Morgengrub from Die Schöne Müllerin" ...

This week, I have actually being enjoying Breakfast. The Bed & Breakfast acoommodation for our short break was hosted by two prefessional musicians, who's music eminating from the kitchen was Radio 3's Breakfast, rather than the expected "Santa Clause is Coming to Town", "Jingle Bell Rock", etc. It was tempered by the discovery that the nausiating request for text messages was on the visual display as well.

The lady on Breakfast has just told me that the title 'Pavane pour un infante defunte' (excuse spelling) has nothing to do with the music, Ravel simply liked the sound of this phrase. Is this correct? (no reason why it shouldn't be I guess)

It's a commonly repeated view, certainly. He also said it was the 'infante' that was supposed to be 'défunte', not the pavane (reference to it being played too slowly.

Oh no.o.o.o.o Just when we thought it could not possibly get any worse, just heard SMP asking listeners who could 'get to a phone' so they could 'tell us all.....'.

                  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....please ....enough.

Oh no, I've got to listen to yesterday's and today's programmes shortly to have my survey ready (as they are'nt publishing the playlists for them till later next week), though I fast forward through the pieces this is still going to be a couple of hours of torture. I wonder how many times 'the genius of Mozart' will be advertised during each programme, I think it was 12 times during Tuesday's programme.

Listening intermittently over the Christmas period, it was only today that I got back to the old practice of turning on the radio at 7.30 - only to be met with the oh so familiar doom-laden crashes of Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet.
By the time I had heard the umpteenth reference to the Mozartfest and requests for listener's "experiences" of Mozart, some Mozart pieces (presumably to be repeated next week) I'd really had enough.
I do wonder if I will ever get back to regular listening of R3 after the next 2 weeks retreat from the radio.

Just because Radio 3 is broadcasting an unbalanced schedule, it does not follow that those (including myself) who think it a mistake should switch off altogether. There are several interesting Mozart-related programmes to to look forward to.

It really has been painful the last few days having to skip through Breakfast in order to work on my survey, though they put some of the playlists up this afternoon, which saved me from having to trawl though yesterdays programme. We seem to have had two Magic Flute overtures within 4 days on Breakfast over the xmas period and the endless advertising for the 'Mozartfest' is nauseating. I hope they put up the playlist for today quickly, will save me having to fast forward through yet another Romeo & Juliet extract.

OK. Enough with the damned kazoo already! Would someone please go into the studio and snatch the thing out of S M-P's hand and throw it out the window. Jeez! And apparently there's some kind of online kazoo tutorial with Katie Derham and Basil Brush That about sums it all up really doesn't it?

Good to hear same old, same old yet again this morning.

I'm sure this question must have been asked many times before in these "debates" and for that I apologise - but have we managed to ascertain how much input the Rucksack, SMP etc. have, if any, into the playlists on Breakfast?

Not how much input. But if Rob isn't allowed a very big say, then he's entirely wasted on the programme. I think there's normally discussion between presenters and production team, but I certainly remember Martin Handley saying that as a 'new boy' he didn't venture to suggest too much. With experience I imagine they get to suggest more and this is the element of 'personal choice' which is sometimes mentioned.
