Indeed the whole fabric of society is grumbling ....... start the petition to sack her E_A and I for one will sign it ......

As long as she isn't replaced by Tom Service. I simply couldn't hear some of his machine-gun-delivery comments during the Kanneh-Mason Prom.

Easy mistake to make: he was obviously thinking of Elgar's Soliloquy for oboe, written for Leon Goossens, in the orchestration by Gordon Jacob
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

You're so right. The chit-chat has been really taking over just lately, ever since numerous listeners have cottoned on to the fact that if they send in a lengthy detailed email, full of autobiographical detail to tie in with a piece of music, it will get read out over the air. Sometimes the waffle seems to last as long as the piece itself. In addition, the chosen music can often seem inappropriate for early morning listening, though that of course is a matter of personal taste and opinion. Nevertheless it doesn't stop me on occasion from reaching for the off-switch!

If the trails and other adverts were taken out it would free up more time for music, not just by adding in the lost minutes but also by allowing more freedom in length of pieces as they wouldn't have to be squished in-between said pointless and counter-productive intrusions. Things do improve in Essential Classics generally in terms of quantity of 'listener input'.

Elizabeth Alker has just managed to mispronounce the name of her colleague Danielle Jalowiecka introducing her reading the news. Although corrected after the bulletin, it was done without apology.

Perhaps she might like to practise on a list of top Sri Lankan cricketers. Saturday Breakfast on Radio 3 disappeared from our personal listening schedule some time ago, but 'news from the front' is always of interest!

She managed to garble it again at 8 am (though not quite as badly as at 7, when it came out as ‘Danielle Ja-Jawovsky’ which wasn’t even close). The silence on both occasions before Danielle started reading was palpable.

Well, at least you can be assured that you're listening to a live broadcast - or is it a sloppily edited recording or announcement?

There has never been any doubt in my mind that Breakfast is live.

Perhaps she should just let Danielle introduce herself whilst she has a ‘Listen Lizzie and Learn’ moment!

"Oh, sorry, was that my cue?"
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I had a mate who managed to get his own surname wrong when presenting a local radio bulletin a few decades back. He corrected it on air .That takes some doing . In their defence radio presenting is one of those jobs that looks easy but isn’t.

That reads like a back-handed compliment!
Perhaps we shouldn't complain too much in these difficult times - Petroc or Georgia every Monday to Friday and Martin every Sunday is a pretty good line-up in my book.
