I know the Aral Sea has largely dried up in Russia, but I never thought there’d be any such issues with the Volga.

Is there provision for repeats to extend Siegfried’s journey?

PLEASE - NO! Wagner's operas are long enough as it is.

Perhaps Siegfried could disembark at some point and complete his journey by train (having made sure that Robert Schumann hasn't been tempted to jump into the newly discovered stretch of the river).

I've REALLY enjoyed this morning's selection of pieces. A particular delight was Ava Gardner singing 'Can't help lovin' that man of mine' - rarely have I heard such a perfect match of voice and lyrics. (She was dubbed in the film of 'Show Boat' but it's her on the studio album).
Pleased to note that Petroc was quick to correct 'Wavvaly' to 'Waverley'.

The Falla and Stravinsky will lead to me listening to the complete works later today, probably Larrocha/Fruhbeck and LSO Dorati! Now thanks the extract from Munch’s Daphnis on EC I’ll add that. With Lenny’s prom this evening -I’m in for some good listening.

By coincidence I was looking only yesterday at the 25-year-old Michael Tilson Thomas conducting that very piece with an enlarged Boston Symphony Orchestra, all of 50 years ago, and very well indeed as it happens ...

This might be called a 50th Anniversary Tribute to Michael Tilson Thomas! ... He made his conducting debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra as its youthful...

I’m sure this has been debated ad nauseam. I’ve nothing against chanson. Far from it in fact. Why then do I always feel so gently mocked by Elizabeth Alker around this time each Saturday? I don’t mind what she plays. Again, far from it. I’m always up for new music. Not sure Je Ne Regrette Rien qualifies, but there we are. Chaque a son gout. Perhaps I had a teacher in the Infants with a similar voice. To Alker not Piaf. Pfft!

A primary teacher with a voice like Edith - now that would be some education!

It’s odd that neither David Munrow nor Christopher Hogwood talked down to their young listeners, yet Elizabeth Alker, Katie Derham and Suzy Klein do so in bucketloads to more mature listeners.

One of those "Well I never" moments this morning. Benjamin Britten singin' the blues (well strictly speaking writing for someone else to), made even more interesting for the happenstance back story that a listener provided - score left behind, found years later lying on the floor, etc.

Sorry can't give links/times, but it's on the listings.

Some people simply shouldn’t be allowed on air. This morning we had a reference to an “American expresso maker”.

Mind you Petroc’s faux pas yesterday capped that one, when introducing the hybrid Prom. The first item was taken from a Barbirolli concert that had included “Elgar’s Oboe Concerto” with Evelyn Rothwell. He did get it right later, but didn’t acknowledge the earlier blunder.

I must admit I caught the reference to the coffee maker, my first thought was this is pointless and irrelevant, stop talking and play some music.
                                Best regards,
