Mendelssohn's Wedding March on a Victorian music box, Judy Dench reading Millais, an extract from an interview with a 72-year-old Henry Wood and lots of interesting stuff about the Royal Albert Hall, including the thousands of 'A's. Also an enjoyable musical discovery - what I thought might be some Malcolm Arnold turned out to be a Suite of Cotswold Country Dances by Philip Lane. Perfect breakfast fare for at least 2 listeners who clearly lack the intellectual stamina to sit through substantial pieces before 10.00 a.m. Unfortunately, when our domestic routine then allows us to sit down and listen to arguably more nutritious fare, we have to look elsewhere - luckily we have many CDs that are overdue for another outing.

Oh, then you missed this week's wonderful Dufay (COTW)!

Not on at the best time for us and I forgot to record it, but I'll 'tune in' to "Sounds".

Stuck out here on the East Coast, we're ideally placed to observe and enjoy. in a totally objective way, these spats between various other parts of the (currently) United Kingdom! We're thinking of declaring independence, but can't agree on what to call the new East Anglian currency, and whether to erect a tollbooth on the Orwell Bridge or simply close it permanently (as against the current policy of shutting it whenever the wind rises above force 4).

                          ... well, I s'pose I agree : Hampstead is preferable to Croydon.

But then Hammersmith is preferable to Willesden...

                          .

It’s in the Nw of England, but is close to the centre of the UK.
