Not what the presenter said! 1h 44'50" in, this afternoon. She actually described him as 'an early Christian saint' before giving us his date of death. Or was it birth? I was only listening to see if she said Duka or Dukass (answer: Dukass ) so don't know if there was a correction !

Yes, but I checked. She said he died in 259 BC. If she said he was born in 259 BC, I suppose he could have lived 300 years or so and still been an early Christian saint.

I think that some of the OT prophets are treated as saints, or at least have churches dedicated to them.

Were not the first of them martyrs? There was something I've now forgotten but knew last week about when they started to be canonised (after having miracles attributed to them).

Don't worry - I'm sure Classic FM will play it at least once in the next few hours - it is, after all, NUMBER 1 in the current 'Hall of Fame' (Last year, their 'top tune' was the 1812 Overture, so all is not totally lost, perhaps).

EA: you've missed out the really big news! An estimable Cornwall-based composer called Paul Drayton has arranged it (just for a lark?) for choir and solo violin, the choir singing Meredith's words. First performance shortly, somewhere in Gloucs/ Worcs I think Petroc said.

I'm a keen choral singer, and loathe these arrangements - Lux Aeterna (Nimrod) Agnus Dei (Barber Adagio for Strings) - and now another one to avoid.....
(Glad to say the choirs I sing with don't go in for these, but the offspring's choir does - had to endure Lux Aeterna three times in 18 months ).
