There are IMVHO two essential differences between Petroc Trelawny and Tom Service.
Firstly, PT definitely has a welcome air of self-deprecation about him - something that could never be said about TS.
Secondly, I can always understand what PT says - again, something that, at least in my case, certainly could not be said of TS.
I particularly liked the way PT responded to the listener who pointed out that clouds don't burn back, but evaporate.
I never listen to 'In Tune' (it's 'Pointless' mfollowed by the 6.00 news on Radio 4 chez nous), but I do rate Sean Rafferty highly.

I think several R3 presenters are competent broadcasters, technically; I also think R3 needs presenters who have a good deal more than that. Their shallow knowledge, particularly of classical music, is painful to a more knowledgeable audience. It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal.
