What about them? Neville Marriner and Alfie Boe … ?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
Getting in the way of playing some music (ironically, on BBC music day) and giving La B-H even more speech time?
I deleted the second part of my last post since, not having listened (as usual), I couldn't be sure what I was talking about However, I will reveal that I paused half way through, and resumed: "You won't believe this, but I stopped to check who was presenting … " I couldn't really understand how they could be making such a meal of Snivel and Alfie (and Brenda Wootton) as to say a great deal. But anyone who insists on playing Gerry and the Pacemakers in response to a listener request when that wasn't what had been requested can make a meal of anything.
There are a couple who, in response to those seen as elderly 'high art' snobs, seem determined to push in the opposite direction.

... such a good phrase. I think I have been an elderly 'high art' snob from about the age of ten. But, as one of my oddest friends assures me, I was an odd child...

Has there been any mention of the fact that today is alo International Working Animal Day? (CB-H taking the opportumity to play Tommy Steele's Li'wl Whi' Buw, f'rinstance?)
International Working Animal Day is run to raise awareness about the role played by 200 million working animals in developing countries around the world.

And this year it is also Corpus Christi (Solemn Eucharist tonight in York Minster with Byrd à 5 and Messiaen's O sacrum convivium; tempted but I've got choir practice to prepare for tonight instead), though in Rome the festivities seem to have been moved to next Sunday:

BBC MD seems much lower key this year. On BBC Four there's Round 3 of Cardiff Singer of the World 7.30-9.00 (presumably because it's on at the moment and it's a coincidence it's also Music Day; nevertheless … Later there are two programmes about Abba, otherwise not one old recording of Top of the Pops programmes which dominated last year's schedule. That seems to be television's contribution.
Radio 3's contribution seems to be same as usual with 'BBC Music Day' tacked on in front of the programme titles and this:
Six monologues produced by BBC Writersroom celebrating the transformative power of music.
which (in my view) may or may not be interesting but, whether or no, it's a Radio 3 thing to do; whereas a programme of music isn't much of a novelty however enjoyable .
Radio 2 seems to be plugging it with Gareth Malone, late of this parish, and the BBCSSO performing with Texas. So the bits that 2-3 years ago would have been simulcast with R3 are kept to R2, and R3 has the BBCNOW/Søndergård with Prokofiev & Stravinsky. There even seems to be a bit more meat in Radio 1's output ('How songwriting and music helped my mental health').
So, do complaints help … ?

Not a Breakfast listener, normally; too early for me!. However I did hear at around 8.45 this morning a piece called Orchestral Groupies with Shaved Heads. I found out the title after I had listened to and enjoyed immensely a humorous piece of writing with a musical theme. Maybe the shaved head wasn't so funny, but it was a sparkling short story all the same.
PS I see there are 6 more pieces in this series. I must listen some more.
