I'm enjoying Skelly's choice of music this morning. Nothing silly or raucous, and sensible commentary to accompany it.
    Pacta sunt servanda !!!

Absolutely - Monday's programme has been the listening in the kitchen all week so far at odd times. The choice is markedly better than non-Skelly days I think e.g. finishing with Ligeti's Concert Romanesc with Nott and the BPO - fascinating discovery....
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

            Hiya Caliban,

Ligeti's 'Concert Romanesc' a fine work in popular style to comply with the demands of the Soviet Authorities. When he was able to he soon changed to a more personal style.

I like the style of IS's brief 'look at the papers'

Petroc has been in Australia, and CBH is presumably frying other fish. She was presenting the cinema showing of Lucia from the ROH on Monday evening.

Incidentally, Homer nodded earlier in the week when IS translated 'nicht schnell' as 'not slow' (which led to at least one tweet from @mrstrellisnorthwales).

Would you care to give a précis? Or guidance as to approx. how long after Saturday sparrow-fart it occurred?

Still about two-thirds through the Skelly breakfast from Thursday 28 April - that week's fun five programmes gradually being listened to on the kitchen computer (though in this one, some ghastly Glass and Grace Williams had to be fast-forwarded to preserve sanity).

IIRC a listener from Nottingham - well it would be wouldn't it - had been to a Bournemouth SO concert when at the end of long applause Silvestri had returned, presumably to "do" an encore. With great solemnity he prepared the orchestra and they played the final chord of the last piece in the programme Enescu's Romanian Rhapsody ....

I note that Breakfast has a new presenter this weekend: Elizabeth Alker, whose previous experience has been as a DJ on 6Music. I note that she has 'liked' a comment on her Facebook page reading: 'Will you be taking requests for Joy Division etc? The Radio 3 grumpy old listeners association will love that!'
So, let us all welcome her with a completely open mind.....

Oh, dear. I am actually rather irritated by this regular cross-culture with 6 Music presenters (though I've never heard of this one) on Radio 3 presenting classical music alongside their own musical favourites . If some had their way they'd all move in on Radio 3 and anyone with any knowledge of classical music would be asked to move on.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

                              Elizabeth Alker.

I feel old. And will probably be a tad grumpy -
