Radio gold, I wish I'd been recording it
Don't remember that one, but I do remember an occasion when a record which was played to fill time between programmes had the most appalling surface noise. After it finished the announcer (possibly Peter Barker) informed us, apologetically, that he had used tea to clean the record (remembering from his schooldays that tea was supposed to be a good solvent), but remembered too late that he'd already put sugar in the tea.

I thought Pet 'n' Clems were the "regulars"?

Petroc IS the other regular. Sir Velo is making mischief, I suspect.

Purely an inference made from the information supplied. If you thank someone for holding the fort, then presumably they are the locum. No?

So she should have thanked Mr Skelly really ... oops naughty Clemmy!

You don't need to draw inferences when you know the facts. And PT did hold the fort as well, in the sense that he did most of CBH's weeks as well as his own, with IS doing a few as well. So it's just mischief-making. Impolite, to say the least, of CBH to fail to acknowledge IS (especially given that he was on only last week). THAT, if anything, is surely the point here.

Quite right! Ms. B-H needs a good "seeing to" for that particular gaffe

Forensically argued. I was emailed and asked whether I knew where Petroc was. I didn't know but wondered if he was on holiday having shouldered both his own and some of CB-H's progs ...

Another email this morning commenting today's presenter...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
