There have been five threads on this so far (now just one). And Bob Shennan is announced as Director of Music (currently Head of Popular Music, and Controller of Radio 2 &c. ....
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

So is that meant to include radio 3 now? - Having seen the marginalisation of bits of Radio 2 recently it does not bode well.

Yes, Patricia Hughes might not always have agreed, but music on BBC Radio 3 is indeed BBC Music.

It's the way they appoint cabinet ministers.

Does the Prime Minister appoint Cabinet Ministers?

I believe so, but this is my point. He can choose a secretary of state who may be well qualified to do one job, but completely lacks the ability to do the one for which (s)he is appointed.

They are appointed by the monarch (as is the Prime Minister) on the advice of the PM. In reality the PM decides who he/she wants in a post & the monarch says OK (at the moment - goodness knows what will happen when Charlie gets the job)

There is at present also a BBC Classical Music Board. I wouldn't expect a Director of Music to meddle with whereof he knows nothing. But the CM Board needs a tougher nut as chairman than RW appears to have been, I would think.
