Indeed. She was known as Penny 'Hesitation' Gore in our household.

Hullo! I'm back ... what's all this about a glass pop up studio on the South Bank thingy?

Radio 3 has relocated to a new temporary studio - in London’s Southbank centre. The station‘s controller Roger Wright explains why.

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

No. We just thought it. I'm getting rather tired of the hype. It's all about them - not the music.

My recent exposure to other radio stations would suggest that Radio 3 believes that it has a potential audience which does indeed feel that the presenters are the point of any programme. Radio 1 and 1Xtra become quite manic to the point where it would be easy to forget that they play music from time to time. There may well be be audiences that do want to <gulp> meet yer actual DJs and presenters and exchange chummy comments with them, but there's little evidence that they're greatly attracted to Radio 3. It would be better to stick to the music and try and raise the standards there. In my view.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

The current breakfast presenters wouldn't have time to be hesitant.

I'm all too happy to meet with a couple of them when we can, thought the talk is seldom directly related to Radio 3. I'm not planning on visiting them in the glasshouse. Might meet 'Pataphysically on April 6th though.

I think they take the view that as 2.4 million people buy The Sun, dumbing down must therefore work for Radio 3. Not a well thought out policy.

Oh to be on the South Bank in the springtime....

...even sans Clemency, although you never know: she might be around too with the pram 'n' stuff...

Oh! I'd love to meet them. They probably wouldn't like what I have to say though! Several years of bottled up "Shut up and play the music" for a start.

Quote R.W. in Guardian "Audiences always love behind-the-scenes glimpses"

Now that is a perfect example of his thinking: It's the "show" that matters- not the music.

A glimpse might well be appreciated form time to time, but this is more like a ducking stool. There's no escape from it for weeks on end.
