So as I have a perception that a lot of people would like these wild claims/statements re the playlists to be correct then it must be true?

Sometimes I'll catch the end of TTN in the morning due to being on GMT+1, like this morning, and I'll think, yes, this is exactly what I want to hear first thing in the morning. Whole works. A decent selection. This morning it was one of Handel's Water Suites and Music For Fireworks, both new to me, and I found myself really engaging with the work over breakfast.

An hour later, and it was reels, waltzes, and aye carumbas. Whoever had the bright idea that people want to be perked up by dancing dervishes first thing in the chuffing morning?!!

I'd much prefer a wide selection of whole works. A Mozart Piano Concerto. A Beethoven String Quartet. etc. Even the lamentable "bleeding chunks" could be improved by having diversity. They have such a huge canon to choose from. Piano music from Bach to Ligeti, but we get the same 'Smoooooooooooth Classics' approach, now with added dog tweets and other fatuous brain-drooling dumbness, all in the name of the zeitgeist's newest god, Interactivity.

Quite! Then who had the bright idea of using extracts to illustrate what's "next up" after the news? Such techniques are straight from BBC 1 programmes like Countryfile. Soon there'll be an overuse of words like "amazing" or "wow". Of course we all have the attention span of a goldfish.

But it is only a true perception (i.e. it's what you genuinely and truly believe from your observations). But you can still be mistaken in your view.

Too many people 'perceive' something very similar to be true - and there's no disputing at all that a few years back Radio 3 decided it was okay to play extracts from longer works, having loftily claimed that it was one of the distinctions between R3 and CFM. It was then, it ain't now.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I've just done some checking and in the last 3 and a half days 22 of the regularly regurgitated warhorses have appeared. There have been 7 appearances for The Wasps overture so far this year, level with works such as the Italian Serenade, La Valse and Espana, but behind The Blue Danube (9) and Danse Macabre (10). The runaway leader is Hungarian Dances (32) well ahead of Slavonic Dances (17).

Is this Breakfast or across the network?

Across the Board (network) but most confined to four programmes; Breakfast, EC, In-tune & TTN. The total number of J Strauss II works is currently 43.

Thank you Suffolk. I've been meaning to do a similar survey but too much time on the laptop cracks my eyes up. (Old git I am!) Breakfast are currently doing all the Bach 48-wasn't this done very recently?

We must be careful SC it is all about perceptions seemingly and by posting on this thread you may have unwittingly generated the perception that it's all down to SMP........

Any news on when the Harris is to be broadcast?

                        Maybe about 3 years ago?
