I wonder if they've been reading our helpfuI suggestions thread?

I listened to two complete programmes recently , and my impression was that in neither did they run a trail between pieces of music: they were back to the practice of tucking them in before the news breaks. This thought having occurred to me, I couldn't face listening to the programmes a second time to check on that.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I think we all have a natural tendency to want to interpret things in the best possible light; especially in these times when merchants of doom seem to prevail. I find myself rejoicing these days, probably completely disproportionately, at the slightest bit of apparent good news: as an instance, the two-parter on BBC 2 earlier this week about the London taxi firm deciding to go ahead with a babies-at-work scheme that had been trialled for a month.

Well, I don't know. I dropped in last week and caught Alborada del Gracioso at 7.45 a.m., dropped in again the same day at 4.15p.m and heard the exact same piece by the same pianist and today, less than a week later at 7.45 today we had Alborada once more.

I think you have a point S_A today was a bit same old, same old and Essential Classics chipped in with YouKnowWhat in Blue. I don't know if FF's coffee buddy Rog's appearance in the Grauniad on Saturday has been commented on but he seemed to suggest the way into Classical was via film (and probably TV) music - could explain certain things.....

If the Breakfast presenters start rabbiting on about helpful recipes for puddings & bonne bouches and recommended wines you can get at Waitrose with the wrong price on - then yes...

                Dry, anton - very dry.

                (Your comment, not the wine)

                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

                  If only ...

Actually, this forum is fulfilling their interactive role for them at nil cost to the Beeb. Rog's blog on the opening of the Proms excited [sic?] no response - other than, belatedly, one comment which was promptly removed .

Facebook mainly seems about posting pics of the stars, and a few listeners saying they 'Like' them.

I have only just recovered from the Schubertfest and now S M-P is pushing Beethoven and Barenboim for all she is worth.

Sara dear, please DO NOT talk over the BC of Beethoven that are played at the moment. Somehow, it annoys me as the ultimate insult to one of the great composers.

                        Agreed

And talking about insults, award for crass juxtaposition of the day just now: Barber's 'Adagio' followed instantly by a shouty advert for the Olympics coverage

                        Unbelievable

Languishing in the pit nursing a bit of a headache and the shivers I was more than intrigued by the "torch connection" piece of music chosen by S M-P. Having reeled off various emailers and texters suggestions, all of which would have been suitable and appropriate, she then chose to ignore them all and play a bleeding chunk of Scherehadze (sp) "because Rimsky Korsakov once stayed in Gravesend".
What says you that the Rimsky was already slated to be played and the producer or even S M-P herself managed to prise in the very tenuous connection?

yes apparently part of Rimsky's first symphony was written in Gravesend
they should have played Schubert's Unfinished instead
                            work that one out

So, because R3 wouldn't part of a single movement, they played Sheherazade instead?

                              Brian Newbould?
