well I have to say that the piazzolla overkill on R3 has passed me by.

Which is a shame, because I find his music really enjoyable, and with a very real emotional content. Performances need to be done well, but you could say that about any music.
As other have said, simplicity can be a virtue.
More piazzolla, not less, would be my recommendation.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Sorry folks, I didn't realise until today that you had asked for details of this disc. It first came out on the Pierre Verany label in 1989 and the "Libertango" was played as a theme tune to a programme by France Musique in the early 90s. I wrote to the station to ask what it was and they kindly gave me the details.

I've found the item on Amazon France, but it seems to be unavailable at present, though you can download it. I would suggest you download the first track, the "Libertango" to see if you share my enthusiasm!

As I mentioned in a similar thread on the Jazz forum, the choir I'm in sings an arrangement of 'Libertango' and great fun it is too!

I'm so relieved to find that I'm not the only one who finds nothing whatsoever of interest in Piazzolla. I hear so much harping on about his music that I was beginning to think (like Ives) that my ears were on wrong. Presumably it's just another bandwagon (bandoneonwagon?) which is doing the rounds (and hopefully the wheels will fall off it at some point.)
