The Best of British - So Far

Being temporarily underemployed as salymap's bean counter and finding myself stuck in a horrendous meeting at work I decided to take a look at the Breakfast Best of British Playlist and try out Excel for iPad .....

The top composers as of yesterday were

    7 Requests
    Elgar

    6
    Purcell
    RVW
    Walton

    5
    Arnold
    Delius
    Ireland

    4
    Britten
    Finzi
    Holst
    Gibbons

    3
    Bliss
    Handel
    Parry
    Byrd
    Tippett
    Maxwell Davies

You still have plenty of time to influence the outcome.........

I have been asking for them to play the brass band version of John Ireland's A Downland Suite. No takers as yet! (I wonder why!! :) ).

I never join in with these things. Most of the pieces I like are far too long for a programme of that type, and it's a Classic FM-ish idea to have a 'Best of' theme. The final tally, if there is to be one, will not be 'the best' of anything, just the most popular with the people who send in requests. That's obvious.

        Well quite.

Although, to be fair, (no need to be , I know), the full list Is quite a decent and interesting list of music.

Good to see Bliss well represented.

you have to wonder about the kind of people who contact the show apparently just to get their name on the radio, though.........

Edit : Excellent use of meeting time, AG I have a 2 day sales meeting coming up, so if you need an unglamorous assistant, feel free to PM me with your requirements.........

Sorry Richard there are two Tallis pieces and one by Dowland .......I should have been clearer, the composers shown are those with 3 or more requested pieces.

And yes it is obvious that any vote to find the Best will never find the Best in anyone's opinion.

According to the list, in February we had "John Dunstable - Veni Sancte Spiritus"
And I have just submitted a suggestion for the lovely little song - "O Rosa Bella".
