I love a bit of extempore enthusiasm....

BTW, (just a random thought of course)....... which accent, do you imagine, would his interviewees have found easier to comprehend?
Something that approximates to what they may be used to hearing, whether that's from school or from the likes of film. The former will depend on whether the teacher is native or learned English speaker, but in any case is unlikely to come with a strong (UK) regional accent, the film etc source would likely be mostly some form of generic Trans-Atlantic? Using as few words as possible when asking the question is also helpful. The older interviewees with their greater experience are better able to cope, but since there were frequently young performers as guests the incidence of difficult interviews was relatively high. Quite apart from feeling sorry for them it was also frustrating as it reduced the opportunity to learn from them directly about their views and experiences.

I'm somewhat wary of where you want to take this, but...Language tutor/film soundtrack, minimal word count, allow time to process, translate, respond.
There were times when I lost track of what SR was asking as there would be several questions all rolled into one sentence so I'm not surprised the guests struggled.

I cant help but like Sean, he seems to have been around for so long and does come across as friendly and warm. I can appreciated some taking issue with his somewhat "flowery" delivery, but I've never noticed it hindering an interview to make it a problem.
