Two in the eveningIt isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

>>>It would be nice to have programmes about non-Western musics ...
Serial, I agree.
As for WOMAD, I think coverage of the festival has had its day.

One of the best features I remember since 'world music' appeared on Radio 3 was a feature on one of the New Year's Day 'World Music Days' when there was an item about Arabic Music with a specialist speaker. It was quite short but the subject would merit a whole series.
The special BBC way would be to send a regular presenter, plus production team, to the Arabian peninsula and talk to/record traditional musicians. A cheaper way would be to get a specialist to write/present some programmes with readily available recordings. It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. >> a regular presenter, plus production team
= Usually a total of two, ff.
Your suggestion should be taken up for one programme or month ( or perhaps more )

Listeners who use only AM/FM receivers on average tune in to 2.9 stations per week; with DAB that rises to 3.5. So what is the principle that would now have such a programme hosted by, say, Stuart Maconie, on Radio 3?It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal.
