Just listening to this review makes me realise that no matter how old the recordings are,it is wonderful to hear Tibbett-Ponselle and Tibbett-Martinelli over the BBC airwaves again, singers of this calibre don't seem to exist any more, especially in the Verdi baritone department.

I just heard the closing moments of Aida; as the applause burst out even before Amneris had finished singing ()I thought "That has to be the Met" - & sure enough it was.

Sublime singing, but I don't think it's a recording I could listen to frequently. I'd be waiting for the applause to ruin it.
