Raiding the wiki page, I think GĂ©rard de Nerval probably deserves a mention though I do have an irresistible urge to mention Rajah Ram Mohan Roy, who died and is commemorated in Bristol.
Indeed he has a fine statue between the city library and the Council House - which we must now call City HallIt isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
