    Maria Stuarda / Met / 19th Jan

They're doing it again!! That numbing intro double-act.
Ira Siff particularly is not just introducing, he's reviewing it, telling us what is 'lovely', ''mesmerising'.
WHY do they do this every damned week? Just trust your audience, FGS.

Yes, yes, I know the singing hasn't even begun yet, but.................!!

I'm enjoying the performance. But I had to turn off the interval interviews. Perhaps it's all a little less saccharine in the cinema - it's an HD transmission this week. But I agree about the presenters.

      Di Donato did her thing....?
But what caught my ear was the tenor and, unusually for the Met, the vigour of the choruses.

I saw the Met cinema screening. McVicar's production was very enjoyable - better than his Anna Bolena last season - but there remains a question mark over the central casting.

Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency....

Halfway through the broadcast, I began to regret bitterly that I hadn't gone to see it in the cinema - and then last night I discovered it's being repeated at 1.00 pm today.
