Yes, you do indeed repeat, rather than answering my criticism. Well, you could have looked her name up on the R3 website, since you were on-line anyway. Not difficult to find. But of course you fail to meet the point that the use of 'the woman commentator' and 'this woman' in the context of the other language you use (as I quoted above) creates an impression of misogyny. Your 'what else can one do in the circs?' question is disingenuous rather than rhetorical. You have clearly received the benefits of a good education, and you have a wide vocabulary at your command. I cannot believe that you could not have framed your criticism of Sarah Lenton in a more measured, neutral way if you had so chosen. You say now that you won't budge in saying that you thought she was poor. I don't ask you to, and that wasn't my criticism (as you must have realised). But what you actually said went far beyond that ('shrieking' etc), and in that context your repeated use of the word 'woman' acquired an unmistakeable tone of prejudice.

Oh, and I did 'read the thread thoroughly' (though in some ways I wish I'd never seen it at all, but there you go). You will no doubt have seen that I chose to pick up on Caliban's post rather than that of Bert Coules. The point is much the same. Re Susan Bullock: again of course you tone it down in your latest post, but the earlier ones (and one or two others) come across as pretty vitriolic to me - and indeed it is your own second go at her that fails to acknowledge the possibility raised by Coules and Caliban, and to temper your criticism accordingly. Of course it's a matter of opinion, and indeed the critics are divided, but in view of the praise she has garnered for her assumptions of Brunnhilde in the past (including when she stood in for Lisa Gasteen during the last cycle) and this time around, I find your speculation as to 'why she felt that it was a role for her' pretty patronising.

Bullock is IMO unreachably, but totally unreachably awful - the wobble and screech are getting worse! She sounds totally out of her vocal depth. .....

I only visit these boards occasionally now, and the above exchange illustrates perfectly why I don't miss them. Laying into a contributor for having the audacity to call a female a "woman"- the very idea!- is a perfect illustration of the kind of student union level PC nonsense (spouted by a significant minority here) that drove me away in the first place.
It's a shame, because somewhere behind such juvenile Spartist diatribes there are sensible and interesting discussions to be had.
