Il Trittico at Covent Garden

Mandryka-I consider Trittico to be Puccini's masterpiece and infact one of the finest of all 20th century opera.As for the "link" between the three, it is a remarkable one! We are watching all THREE in live time.This is quite remarkable.Three one act operas being played as everything happens second to second. Puccini does not waste a note, this is pure genius.

Hmm - Suor Angelica, seventeenth century I think; Gianni Schicchi, thirteenth century if I remember my Dante...

.... the new Radio Times [16-22 June] (once again, page 112... ) shows the level of seriousness with which we are expected to receive the BBC's cultural offerings -

I've been catching up with these via my PVR. I don't know much about opera, but I was impressed with the overall standard of these performances. The unfussy, unpatronising introductions by Maestro Pappano (who, I discovered while listening to this week's 'Counterpoint', was born in Epping) told me just enough to encourage me to then use my own faculties to get the most out of each opera. Thank you, BBC4 - yet again!
