The end of this opera seems better than the beginning. That's like the old joke -
"which bit did you like best?",
"the last bit" ,"why?,
"because it was the last bit".
Gloriana was, it seems never, a great success, but parts of it are quite well written.
It's not going to become my favourite opera, but I think I'm glad to have seen it.
I assume it was well done, and the set was intended to be reminiscent of an old style village hall.
Susan Bullock was very good as Queen Elizabeth I. Brindley Sherratt was excellent as the blind ballad singer.
