David Lang's Prisoner of the State

Hardly a night at the Opera, just an hour or so, but that suited me fine, and in English! David Lang has a fine sense of Drama.

I was able to retain interest and concentration throughout. May I respectfully suggest that this would be a good template for future new opera compositions.

Live from the Barbican, the European premiere of a dark new Beethoven-inspired opera.

(Interesting list of "Music Played" - suggesting that the Lang work wasn't!)

David Lang is a skilled composer with a fine ear for original and attractive sounds, but heaven save us from templates for future compositions!
