    The Story of the Met

    ...the opera house, that is.

    BBC4 tonight at 8pm

It's probably a repeat, but if it is, I missed it the first time round.

I think it’s the one new programme BBC4 is allowed this week.

The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

Leontyne Price...just fabulous, both voice and personality.

And wonder of wonders there was some actual music on BBC4, albeit a 10 minute unscheduled slot, afterwards. Chopin's 'Raindrop' Prelude.

Well, that was really rather wonderful. Price is just so special, and what a character! She neither looks or sounds like the 90 year old she was when that film was made.

Such a pleasure too that the musical extracts were so apt and well chosen, rather than using pop music as background music for a classical documentary.
