English Touring opera brought Il Seraglio [in English, with ENGLISH sur-titles 
] to Exeter last night. It was a full house, and ETO is to be congratulated for bringing opera to the provinces. It was a slightly lukewarm production, and there was some disjunct between pit and stage at times. However, Kpnstanza and Blonde were well characterised by two impressive sopranos, and we had some suitably dark bottom Ds from Osmin.
Most audience members may have winced at the price of tickets, programmes and refreshments, but ETO has a policy of offering £5 tickets to under
35s, so good for them. There was a smattaering of younger adults among the greying heads.
