Olga Peretyatko was superb. Does the Russian language have rolled ‘r’s? She can trill those and enunciate them in a spectacular way. Definitely worth going to see/hear her sing. Production wise - it was fun - and innovative. Whether it really made the plot “better” I’m not sure.

It does. But so of course do French and German in a classical-singing context, as well as Italian in all contexts, so you can't get very far in that world without them!

The King’s College Cambridge lock-out (Finley, Padmore, Farnes) in Death in Venice is very tempting, heavily booked already though.

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
