    Glyndebourne Festival 2020

Glyndebourne has announced its festival commencing May 2020 before the ROH has announced its 2019/20 season commencing September this year (are they undoing the plans of Holten one wonders?). There are three new productions:

Poulenc - Dialogues des Carmelites, conducted by Robin Ticciati
    Handel - Alcina, Gianluca Capuano
    Beethoven - Fidelio, Ticciati

    The revivals are:

    Donizetti - L'elisir d'amore
Mozart - Die Entführung aus dem Serail
    Stravinsky- The Rake's Progress
(a contender for the finest production of any opera. It comes up fresh with every revival, although the painted drop curtain looks a little worn now with all the amendments over 40 years. Last outing possibly?)

The tour runs from October to December 2019

    Mozart - The Magic Flute
    Puccini - Madama Butterfly
The Magic Flute: Behind the curtain
'Taking audiences under the hood of Mozart's final operatic masterpiece'.

The Poulenc is being broadcast on R3 from the Met on 11 May and being shown in cinemas should you need a primer, it's a powerful work.

The last ROH production of Carmelites made a big impression on me, and I'm intending to try the Met Cinema showing. Glad I'll get to see the Rake's Progress production, at last. I'll also be tempted by the Carmelites, Alcina, Fidelio and possibly the Mozart in the Festival season. (More journeys to Sussex than usual then, next year).
