I saw this on its first run at the National when that role was played by Josephine Barstow. It's a terrific show that has all the complexities we have come to expect from Sondheim, in spades. Musically it's a series of pastiches of the different styles prevalent in musical theatre during the 20's and 30's, but that description belies its originality and sophistication. Imelda Staunton's frighteningly bleak rendition of Losing My Mind was truly devastating.

'Follies' is one of Sondheim's finest - the 2017 NT cinema streaming was terrific

Saw a very good production in the West End in the 1980s with Diana Rigg, Daniel Massey, Dolores Gray and Pearl Johnson and Teddy Carr amongst others!

I saw Company at the Gielgud on Saturday, and it was bloody brilliant!

Never having seen it before, I have to say that the 'reverse gender' casting of many of the roles looked completely natural and I couldn't actually imagine the piece working better with a male lead.
