Janacek's From the House of the Dead - by Shostakovich

I love Janacek, esp. "The Makropulos Case", but Shostakovich's version of Janacek's "From the House of the Dead" is new to me.
    Shurely shome mishtake?

    See "Music Played" on:

The surprising thing is that Radio 3 has never introduced us to the Shostakovich version before on Essential Classics.

        :-)
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Perhaps it's scheduled for his anniversary? Who would be your perfect presenter for this gem?

They've corrected the composer, but not the photo -

Although I think this version looks more like dear old Leoš.

It must have been a job given to the interns. I know because I've seen the programme 'W1A'. Maybe we report it to the BBC's head of values!
