      I think Wagner wanted Italianate tenors or those whose vocal production was from that school for some roles but rarely if ever found them during his lifetime or perhaps since for that matter.
      The absence of heldentenors or other voice-types doesn't preclude great performances of the music though admittedly lessening the pleasure of some listeners but uncastable, no.

          The last time I saw 'Giulio Cesare in Egitto' it was at Komische Oper Berlin, there were women in trouser roles and no countertenors; certainly no castrati that I know of.
