How can they eliminate one of the most successful Directors?

Credibly, they can't. But I suppose they can work out a strategy for referring to his (very successful and LONG) era wihout making reference to the M.D.

I would imagine it would be possible to remove shots of Levine from Met video broadcasts, though I suppose they'll still have to credit him (in very small lettering).

Apparently, Levine still won't be facing any criminal charges.

THIS struck me as a bit rich, coming from Lebrecht:

Well, indeed, yet I wonder to what extent this might backfire in a similar way to the daft idea put forward a while back to decline to announce the name of Charles Dutoit when broacasting any recordings conducted by him - daft because listeners would immediately know that any orchestral broadcast where the conductor's name is omitted must have been conducted by him...omitted

Am I the only one that is depressed by all this? From Radio DJs, through sports commentators and coaches to high-art artists. Just what was going on around me when I was growing up? A rather narcissistic perspective I know, but full sympathy for the victims, it's just that I find it really gets me down and I want to bury my head in the sand.

That's a crazy idea. Better just not to play Dutoit recordings at all (there are plenty of alternatives). A shame if his collaborators have to miss out on royalties, therefore!

No, you're not - the behaviour of these over-indulged predators is sickening, and the number of names whose work I'd respected (at the very least) appearing is in the fullest sense of the word, depressing. I can only hope that all such criminal acts are brought to legal punishment, and that in the future, respect for a person's work is never allowed to fester to the extent that such acts are condoned and covered up.

A bad business - but it's sort-of encouraging that we're living at a time when a stand is being taken against this sort of behaviour. An improvement in itself, and one that I have to hope will lead to better protection, behaviour, and attitudes.

Very much agree with you Ferney and Beefy. I doubt whether their legacy be appreciated in the same light and why should it. Our focus should be on those poor victims.

Article suggests that prosecutions look unlikely.

He sued the company for breach of contract and defamation on Thursday, three days after it fired him when an investigation found he had “engaged in sexually abusive and harassing conduct.”

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
