Thanks, DracoM - Flippin' RT got it wrong, yet again.

Rather odd touch according to the RT they are filling in with The Sorcerer's Apprentice until Choral Evensong.

I couldn't catch it all, but what I did hear (which was basically the beginning of the act and the end) sounded well up to the standard of the Rheingold, with some vivid characterisation and bags of attack and pace. I would have liked much more description beforehand of what was going on on stage, which was obviously fairly unorthodox in places - Hunding's hut sounded extremely and noisily crowded at one point in the action.

As with the Rheingold I particularly liked the recorded sound and especially the balance, with the voices riding nicely over the orchestra. And once again we had the occasional vocal trick of a suddenly sotto word dropped into the middle of a louder phrase: very effective and not overdone.

            On to act two...

I only managed to listen to the last ten minutes or so of today's act two, but it sounded superb: again, that combination of power and subtlety, coupled with some very intelligent vocal acting. Wotan's dismisal of Hunding was really chilling.

Again though, I wanted to know what was happening, specific to this particular production. Whence came the massed cry of grief when Hunding killed Siegmund? Who else was on stage?

              On to the rest...

I have to catch up with Die Walkure. I have been in London listening to Purcell...more on that in another thread, soon.

                  A few small images here - http://www.theoperacritic.com/review...=parwalkur0510

It's not listed in the 2010/2011 season on the Opera website, just Siegfried & Gotterdammerung

I wonder if a DVD will emerge. I've seen some fairly strange productions at the Bastille (Elektra about three years ago springs to mind), but this Walkure sounded wonderful, great conducting and a very strong lyrical cast. Merbeth with occasionally wide vibrato still sounded very convincing, but I was particularly impressed with Anthony Dean Smith, a singer I've only heard in concert before. Dalyman seems to be developing into one of the most intelligent, lyrical Wagner singers, and although I can't hear the rest today, it'll be on the iplayer next week. And more Philippe Jordan please.

I haven't heard any of Walküre yet, but (having followed advice on the 'recording live streams' thread) I downloaded Freecorder, which is recording Act 1 as I type. Let's hope I remember to record the other 2 acts before they expire from the iPlayer...(lost half of Rheingold because I got to it too late!).

Katerina Dalayman is the Kundry on the van Zweden Parsifal which you can watch (concert performance at the Concertgebouw) complete on youtube . I haven't had the chance to watch much of Act 2 yet, so haven't seen Dalayman at full stretch - but the rest of it is extremely impressive, with Vogt's Parsifal, Holl's Gurnemanz, and Struckmann's Amfortas all sounding excellent. Very good orchestral sound, too, and some nicely unsqually flowermaidens.

What I heard of act three sounded tremendous. Musically and audio-dramatically this really is a very fine Ring indeed, so far.

But act 2 is missing on the iplayer. 1 and 3 are there but for some reason 2 is not. Aaagh

                              Chris,

I've also sent one too, but using the iPlayer complaints: https://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co....rms/emailPage?
