An excellent reading of the score by Goodall acolyte Anthony Negus (he pops up in the recently shared Quest....film) and dynamic, involving performances from Peter Wedd and Lee Bisset, two burgeoning British Wagnerians who have impressed me previously in (respectively) the WNO Lohengrin and the ON Ring.
I agree with a reviewer who said that this was a Tristan that didn't shy away from the depiction of sensual love: it's not all about Schopenhauer, you know!
Excellent production by Carmen Jakobi - you don't need to spend a lot of money on a set, just make the setting simple and memorable.
The best Tristan I've seen since the WNO production back in 1993.
