Just announced are the 2018 Glyndebourne Festival details
Revivals:
Handel: Saul
Handel: Guilio Cesare
Strauss: Rosenkavalier
New productions:
Puccini: Madame Butterfly (2016 Tour production)
Debussy: Pelleas (Stefan Herheim director)
Barber: Vanessa
This is, in my opinion, a much more interesting festival than this year's (which I note is really struggling to get bums on seats for nearly all the productions).
Two Handel productions though?
The Graham Vick production of Pelleas was so sublime I am surprised it wasn't one of the revivals. Herheim's Wagner productions have attracted some favourable comment but, but...my memory of the Vick production is so embedded in my conciousness together with the music that I am worried that this new production will disappoint. (But I will probably have to go!)
Barber: Vanessa. Certainly.
