I saw it on Monday evening. I enjoyed the production and had no problem following it or knowing who was who, but I watched the film recently, which certainly helped. I thought they did a superb job of following the film and was amazed at how much they packed into it, but I can't say I really enjoyed the music or, in particular, the singing. It wasn't because of the performances, but because I found the way the words were set uncomfortable and found the range for the women's voices unpleasantly high. I think the singers did an amazing job singing it, but it didn't please my ears. I don't think I'd want to hear it again, but I'm still glad I had a chance to see and hear it.

We went last night and it turned out to be right up my street. We had a very good view right in the middle of of the Amphitheatre. Spellbinding show in terms of staging, voice ensemble, acting, orchestral sound, costume, décor + quite a lot of laughs. All in all a memorable night at the theatre. Coincidentally, on Friday lunchtime we had seen Fiona Maddocks who gave it 5 stars in the Observer last week at Swindon Literature Festival. In the Q & A, I had a chance to ask her to talk about it. A great couple of days of music for us. On Thursday we had seen another five star show - Bob Dylan at Bournemouth on his best form for years aged 75.Comment
