Unfortunate news from the ROH that Dmitri Hvorostovsky is withdrawing from the upcoming Covent Garden production of Il trovatore.

Hopefully his cancer hasn't flared up again, and that he is simply cutting back his schedule and minimizing travel.

he's still under treatment. He had another round of chemotherapy in September.

He was singing in Traviata in Vienna last month, but cancelled the final performance to come back to London for a check up. Following an MRI scan, he was advised to remain in London for further treatment and rest. A few days ago, he cancelled some scheduled performances in Russia this month, and has now cancelled all forthcoming opera performances.

It is remarkable how he has been able to maintain a busy schedule, while still receiving treatment for a brain tumour, but a prolonged period of treatment and rest looks in order now.
