What a superb cast! In todays' current obsession with excessive vibrato, Ermonela Jaho's purity of tone was like a breath of fresh air. The other members of the cast also delightful.

Recommended.
I think I saw Jaho perform this role at the premiere of this production. Very memorable.

If you saw the premiere, yes, it was Jaho. Harteros was supposed to do it, but pulled out early in the production process. They were lucky to get Ermonela. Thanks to this production and her (and Pappano et al!) this is now one of my favourite operas. I can't get through it without going to pieces, every time!

Me too, and I very much agree. The setting in the hospital ward run by the sisters helped, somehow, to place he piece in a context which constrained the hysterical (for want of the better word) peaks of the piece, so it made a more convincing case for the emotions at play. And yes, a delight to hear a mature but pure and strong voice in Jaho.
In fact the whole Trittico was very memorable (Although overshadowed, I do also like Il tabarro - so good to see all three in one night).

Il Trittico is back at the opera house at the end of this month, again with Jaho in Suor Angelica (Luisotti conducting this time). Only quite expensive tickets available at the moment, but no doubt worth keeping an eye out for cheaper returns.

Yes, indeed. After hearing Suor Angelica I was very tempted to try ad get tickets and did a bit more digging as to who else was singing in the other two. I got terribly excited when I followed the Youtube link to Ekaterina Siurina in Gianni Schicchi and could feel my wallet being prised open but sadly she is not featuring in this forthcoming run. Instead Susanna Hurrell is singing and I just can't warm to her voice. To my ears she is in the School of Wobbly Vibrato. Thank goodness for YouTube!
