    Kirill Petrenko live "Rheingold" tonight

A chance to catch the new Berlin Phil chief on the wing (or rather, in the water) this afternoon/evening with this live Rheingold relay from Bayreuth:

Monday July 27 at 17h57 Central European Time. That is 4:57pm London

    Bayreuther Festspiele
    Richard Wagner: „Das Rheingold“
    Vorabend zum Bühnenfestspiel
    „Der Ring des Nibelungen“

    Wolfgang Koch (Wotan)
    Albert Dohmen (Alberich)
    Andreas Conrad (Mime)
    Wilhelm Schwinghammer (Fasolt)
    Andreas Hörl (Fafner)
    Claudia Mahnke (Fricka)
    Allison Oakes (Freia)
    u. a.
    Orchester der Bayreuther Festspiele
    Leitung: Kirill Petrenko
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

    Thanks Caliban.

But for those of us who don't speak or read German, it's a bit tricky to navigate. I keep looking for buttons to click to translate it into American.

Caliban: link doesn't seem to work for me. But this one appears to work:

Tristan und isolde was carried live on Saturday and Lohengrin yesterday on various European stations. The Operacast website provides useful information about daily opera relays.

Despite all the BBC's claims, it seems that in the world of broadcasting we are, once more, Das Land ohne Musik.

Proms does Fiddler while R3 burns, and Bayern Klassik relays Rheingold. So who's won the real gold?

In a way it's living proof that R3 is as so many say trying to be too may things to too many people, and the internet stns round the world are licking their lips. If BBC quits the field of high culture, move over, let in the big European and Scandinavian stations.

Incidentally, this BR Klassik Alberich is superb. Singing the Wotan off the map. Love Petrenko's speeds too. Some terrific string playing.

PS who's singing Loge? Not on the cast list?

According to the festival website, it`s John Daszak. The Alberich is Albert Dohmen - who has of course sung Wotan on-stage!

Walkure on BR4K 8th August, Siegfried 11th, and Gotterdammerung 15th. Or you can hear Walkure tomorrow live on Bartok Radio or Radio Classica Espana.

                  Agreed!

Dohmen was Wotan in the 2006-2011 Bayreuth Ring, interestingly.

It has to be one of the fastest ever performances in the annals of the Bayreuth Festival.
                      Too superficial at those speeds.

And Bayreuth does not see it to engage the outstanding Wotan of our day! Instead he takes on a non-operatic role in what is usually the province of amateurs.
