Glad to hear the Salford performance was excellent. I totally agree with all your comments. My only original complaint was on the Trumpet section. I felt they didn't match the rest of the orchestra. The Steer Horn Trumpets were excellent.

Going to Leeds next Saturday. Was talking this evening to a friend who went to the Lowry yesterday and his assessment was pretty much the same as EA's - I was even more fired up at the prospect after our conversation! I saw Rheingold and Walkure at the Lowry and Siegfried in Leeds and marginally prefer Leeds, but I'm glad I've upgraded to the gallery rather than sitting downstairs in the 'bathroom' acoustic!

Enjoy it, Roslynmuse. Despite my reservations, I would gladly go again.

I wholeheartedly agree with Alpensinfonie, I would go again as well. I saw the first performance in Leeds.

Once again, I was very impressed by the Manchester (O.K. Salford) audience - so quiet and considerate throughout. Yes, there was one idiot with a mobile phone and someone else decided she's had enough by Siegfried's Rhine Journey, but the rapt concentration restored my faith in human nature.

I agree. There is no excuse. The Ring was just the thin end of the wedge. What next for Opera North? Die Zauberflöte as a concert performance?

Is it all down to money? Opening up access?

Opera North is joining together its Ring operas for a series of full cycles in 2016, including a staged version in London . (Hey, it's not called Opera South).

The concert performances will be at Leeds, The Lowry (Salford), Nottingham and The Sage (Gateshead)
