And Walter Goehr - "Sandy" 's dad - who prepared a version before Stevens (the first printed copy I came across in the 70s) and whom "Wiki" credits as having conducted the Morley College performance. Others here have enthusiastically referenced his 1954 York Minster performance.

As was once (nearly) said in Edinburgh "Whaur's yer JEG noo?"

In the pre-concert interview, JEG said that he heard a performance when he was 11. It must have been the York Minster performance in 1954.

So what was it that made JEG’s original performance being regarded as something like revolutionary? And was the performance on Wednesday intended to be a recreation of the original performance? What were pre-JEG performances of this work like?
