I spend a fair amount of my working day on the telephone and, inevitably, get Spring from Vivaldi's 4 ******* Seasons while held in a queue and I just hate it. Strangely, I get the inevitable Eine kleine as well but I still like that.
Poor Mozart and poor Vivaldi. Would they have bothered to get out of bed to compose them if they knew how they'd end up?
Nothing else bothers me. If any music sets my teeth on edge I don't listen to it. Simples!
"The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink
I like early Copland quite a bit more than the later stuff. Don't think I know Vitebsk tho.
Very few pieces actively annoy me but Für Elise is one of them. The music of Glass, Reich, Nyman, Einaudi, etc, doesn't set my teeth on edge—just bore me—but it does annoy me a little bit when people talk about them as the greatest contemporary composers. Mostly because I then can't weigh in with a dissenting opinion without feeling like a grumpy old coccyx.
erm I don't think all of those belong together at all
That's true, I don't think Reich has written any film music. I'll replace him with John Williams.
(less snarky edit: I was only grouping those composers together as examples of living artists whose music fills me with neutrality. Actually though, that reminds me of a composer whose music does actively irritate me: John Adams. For some reason, to me, he is to music what George W. Bush was to politics.)
Kea, you cannot surely think that ALL of Reich's music is boring?
Personally I find it veers between the very exciting and the forgettable. But that is how it always goes.

Reason: folk music induced trpyononsense
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Well, I have not heard all of Reich's music, so no. (Pedant's Corner. Sorry. <.<) I did not find that which I heard to be exciting enough to seek out any more of it though.
