    Bargain Tickets

I thought it might be worth having a thread for ticket bargains that people might care to flag up.

Here's one for opera and Handel fans :

Time out also have an offer running for Strauss at the RFH on January 30th.
Might be an idea to flag up free events as well.

Intermezzo has this to say on the Time Out Rodelinda offer: 'This is a pretty good discount; previous experience suggests this is the maximum offered on advance booking deals. However you should bear in mind that the seats included in the offer are all at the rear, so the view is severely compromised. As with all Time Out offers, you don't find out your seat number until the day of the show either. As ever, it's likely you will find better seats for less at TKTS on the day.'
I intend to go, but I think I'll take the gamble that Intermezzo is right re TKTS. The seats on offer above really aren't that great.

If one is old enough (bus pass required - not sure if it works for youngsters such as students also) and the event at ENO is not sold out, then it is possible to get pretty good seats by turning up around a couple of hours before the performance. The discount is similar or better to the Time Out offer, but the seats which can be obtained may be significantly better. I did this last for Fidelio.

Of course one has to be prepared to take the chance of not getting in, but shall we say that I decided not to go to Fidelio with a friend who wanted to be sure of a seat. He paid around £100 and went a week before I did, whereas I risked it, and had a good seat for not much more than half that.

The time out offer of £10 for best seats for the Takemitsu/Ligeti concert at the RFH before Xmas was a good offer......but on the night there were best seats for £4 !! It was still great value for £10 , though i felt sorry for those who shelled out £31 or whatever.

but anyway, the thread might be useful.
