You mean your radio or tuner? Quality wise you'll probably do better if you can link your hi-fi to your computer - providing you don't encounter streaming problems. Downloads are, sadly, not an allowable possibility. :frown:

Dave,I am working with an item from the backwoods, the Yamaha CDR-HD1300.

It has proved to be incredibly reliable & valuable to me. At my age a small hearing loss is of little consequence.

Occasionally I will transfer to a CD. I just hope it will outlive me, there is so much I treasure within this device.

That's one of those devices of a type I sometimes wish I'd bought. Do you frequently record from the radio? Actually can you link it to your computer? - though that might
violate the T&Cs if you use iPlayer

Do you mean quality loss, or hearing loss? I'd think hearing loss is definitely something to be concerned about, though not paranoid. My own hearing is not great, but OTOH it is good enough that it doesn't cause me too many problems and I'm not anticipating any rapid deterioration. Sadly I have started to see some friends with some really serious degradation, and a rapid decline is something to for serious concern.

Good luck with the Elias quartets - like ams I hadn't really noticed, but now I have!

Thanks Dave. Yes, I record a great deal from radio. Last week 3 Bach Cantatas from Belgium. It enables me to capture items which are a delight but not suffeciently so as to have me spend yet more on discs. Very useful for modern music - do I like it or don't I ?

Hearing problems are mainly not volume but a lack of HF. Listening on top quality Sennheisers help here plus my Audiolab amp. NHS has to my surprise, recently set me up with excellent quality hearing aids, one for each ear & no shortage of time on adjustment for frequency range.
Have not thought of linking to the computer, with no good reason, as yet, for doing so.
I did enjoy the Elias, but then went to my large collection of discs & realised they may well be a source for comparison but not replacement.

Hope all goes well for you & yours in the New Year

                Good wishes from gamba

Am catching up with these Elias SQ performances of LvB rather belatedly, as I just listened to Episode 1 (op. 18/no. 2 and op. 131) earlier today. Very good performances indeed, and have Episode 2 on now. I urge anyone else who hasn't yet listened to this series to give it a go.

If nothing else, given all the criticism of dumbing down of R3, it's necessary to show strong interest in the meaty programs like this one, rather than lighter "dumbed down" material. Bean-counters at R3 know how to do at least one thing, namely count the number of hits a given program gets on iPlayer (hint, hint). For example, did anyone else catch the Abbado/Lucerne Festival Orch programs last week on Afternoon on 3? I managed it just before the 1 week deadline.
