Everything happens slowly in Vienna!! BTW PT just said that tickets for the concert costs between 30 and 940 Euros - there 2000 people in there - with the world-wide distribution does it cost that much to put on that they need Rolex' sponsorship? Perhaps DB charges a lot!!

I've just finished watching a most enjoyable concert. I liked the touch of DB shaking hands with each player during the Rad March. That will leave the passing BBC2 viewer thinking that a conductor is unnecessary.

I'm surprised to see so many messages here which must have been posted during the concert. Didn't it hold their concentration - or has the tweeting generation reached The Radio 3 Forum?

          Well done Wiener Philharmoniker.
          Very enjoyable.
What a nice gesture of Barenboim btw to shake hands with the orchestra (and to give today's earnings to charities)
Great choreography especially in Delibes' Pizzicati Polka , and great pictures illustrating G'schichten aus dem Wienerwald, too. And that Dynamiden-walzer definitely is music which Richard Strauss thought good enough to re-use again (like Bruch and his own Capriccio Mondscheinmusik).

Nevertheless enough of the Strauss family for the rest of the year for me, I'm afraid.

I don't have any of those portable devices (my mobile phone makes phone calls and occasionally receives text messages) and my computer is upstairs. That's how it will remain.

Does it have any cheap seats ?.
Did I hear PT say that seats were 940 euros?

I always try to find some time each day for concentrated listening with no distractions.
I caught the last half hour or so of the New Year concert while I was having a cuppa,it didn't hold my attention I'm afraid.

I enjoyed this year's concert. My cousin and I say every year that we would love to go but since we're both poor pensioners it's unlikely to happen. I cried my way through the Radetzky March as usual. It gets to me every time.

Very enjoyable NYDC but I wonder what the net worth of that audience is!

And those Vienna Phil fiddles! What I would give to play like that...

Sorry to say I am guilty of this..I really should turn off the computer whilst watching. I find I get into bad habits like this due to living alone!

I found Barenboim going through the orchestra shaking hands, while the band played by themselves, very moving. Mehta must be worried about his contract being cancelled though.

Petroc said that Julie Andrews presents the American broadcast of the concert...but how could she do that if she was sitting in the audience? Maybe a pre-record...
