Wow!! What a fiddler and a beauty. I love the Britten Violin Concerto and she certainly brought out its very soul. A marvellous concert. Why don't the BBC repeat all their televised concerts just to restore my faith in human nature and to raise us all from the mire that most TV output is, nowadays.
BBC 4 Proms 2013 last night.

thanks for flagging that up, Marv, I missed it last summer and last night, but like you I love the Britten, so I'll deffo catch up on that one.
Might try to revive the " Music coming up on TV. thread too.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I just tuned in to part one of this concert a couple of hours ago. I missed the broadcast over the summer. I really rate the Violin Concerto and Janine Jansen's performance gave me goose bumps. The performance seemed to get positive reviews at the time...
As to why the BBC chooses not to provide a library of televised concerts to its audience is perhaps a matter of conjecture. I'd reckon copyright and IT issues such as bandwidth might be factors. A shame... but (sotto voce) one could hypothetically visit places like Youtube and type in "BBC Proms 2013..." and see what takes your fancy... Nudge Nudge, wink wink... say no more
Best wishes,
Tevot

The Britten concerto compelled my attention, it sounds to a non-string player fiendishly difficult but the soloist was right inside the piece; the physicality of her playing was compelling viewing. Don't know when it was written but it is prime Britten, up there with the best that the concerto form has to offer.

I was particularly struck by how well the orchestra and conductor work together. As with the recently televised Stravinsky concert (Rite and Firebird), there was an incredible rapport - stunning Bizet encores too! (The interspersed extract from young Gilchrist's Cadogan Hall concert seemed a bit out of place.)

I can't remember whether they did televise this one during the summer or not. I thought the concert happened on the last Sunday of the Proms. If it is a "new" one, then it gives me hope that Mahler 2 (which both the Proms guide and Gramophone magazine said would be televised) will be shown at a future date.

I was present at the BRSO Mahler 2 and can categorically state that there were no TV cameras in evidence so there is, alas, no chance of A TV broadcast."The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink
