The second half of Performance on 3 when the gueezer says "and we are continuing our German Leider through the centuries. Today we are in the mid-1800's... (which is where they are EVERY day!) and this is by SchumA. (which it always is!)

Whenever I hear French art songs I'm always reminded of the comment by Anna Russell on the subject -" No voice, but tremendous artistry! "

Greatest turnoffs - 1 Tuneless minimalst, head-hurting Reich, Glass et al. 2 Bolero - I suppose every composer has one turkey but why oh why did this genius do this one? 3 Vibrato-laden, unpleasant sounding vocal performances. 4 Many operas 45 secs after the overture has finished, often because of 3!

Totally with you on 1, 2 and 4

But at 3, in place of Bolero, I'd put most of Liszt's output (save for a handful of his more thoughtful and/or lyrical piano pieces).
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

It looks that you don't know very much of his output then , Cellini Caliban

Yup, a pair of absolute Cs, Cellini...

You seem to have confounded poor Cellini with that cloth-eared Caliban, Roehre.
