    Granada Millenium: Afternoon on 3

    This is amazing. Do listen.

Katie Derham this week focuses on music from the Baroque and pre-Baroque, including a magical celebration of the foundation of the Kingdom of Granada in 1013. Over three afternoons Jordi Savall and some leading musicians from the Arab world bring back to life the sounds of the Kingdom of Granada and Andalucia from its foundation a millenium ago to its incorporation into the Kingdom of Castilla nearly five centuries later.
As well as the early music, there's the chance to experience all four Brahms symphonies in performances from some of the continent's leading orchestras and conductors.

    Oh, not this then?

MediaCityUK sits on the site of the redeveloped Manchester Docks though for the most part it’s in Salford. It’s well worth a look if you’re on a visit to  the...

... I have been enjoying this. Innarestin' that it was obviously a Spanish / French production, with perhaps the emphasis on "French" - all the intercalated explanatory stuff was done by a very French "Actor" voice, with no English explication.

If you have rudimentary Arabic and French ( . . ) all will have been clear - but for those with just the English, it must have been a bit of blur...

It makes it all the more mysterious and interesting in a from-beyond-the-mist-of-time sort of way.

I would guess (because I can't read Spanish) that it was a recording of this - http://www.granadafestival.org/2013/...7684366f2987c0 and http://www.musicaantigua.com/jordi-s...rna-1013-1526/ and the associated CD

I thought this was a thread about that awful programme at 2pm from the 70s on ITV with either Mavis Nicholson or Judith Chalmers !

For a young racing fan waiting for racing at 2.30 it was the slowest half an hour ever !

Enjoyed this series of concerts: listened so far to the second and third programmes with the others to follow. So far, I am slightly perplexed, however: none of the performances seem to have actually been performed in Granada; and, furthermore, how do the Brahms symphonies and other concert works link in with the city's millenium celebrations? If anyone can provide enlightenment, it would be much appreciated!

I thought the Brahms etc were another part of the patchwork nature inflicted on afternoons and derived from other sources - I guess it is cheaper this way and R3 has to pay more than its share of the obscene payouts to the TV luvvies
