Verdi Nabucco - Deutsche Oper Berlin
Tonight a change from the Musikfest Berlin. Just got back from the première of Keith Warner's production of Nabucco at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. I loved it and was impressed by Johan Reuter as Nabucco and Anna Smirnova as Abigaille. I found it far superior to the recent Royal Opera House production directed by Daniele Abbado with Plácido Domingo as Nabucco which I found most disappointing.

Tomorrow is my last concert from the Musikfest Berlin 2013 with the Philharmonia/Esa-Pekka Salonen playing Debussy Faune Prelude, Lutoslawski Les Espaces du Sommeil, Ravel Mother Goose & Lutoslawski Sym 3.

Daily Report - Musikfest Berlin 2013

      Debussy: Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune,
Lutosławski: Les Espaces du Sommeil for baritone and orchestra
Ravel: Ma Mère l’Oye (Mother Goose) suite for orchestra,
      Lutosławski: Symphony No. 3,
Matthias Goerne (baritone), Philharmonia Orchestra/Esa-Pekka Salonen, Philharmonie, Berlin

Although good performances I was slightly disappointed by the Philharmonia in the Debussy and Ravel in which I expected more of them. The Philharmonia excelled in the two Lutosławski scores and I especially enjoyed the stunning performance of the Symphony No. 3.

Back to Blighty tomorrow. God willing!

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
