Another work which runs it a close second is the Fantasy-sonata for clarinet and piano (I attended the Dartington Summer School a few years ago, and found a clarinettist who was really keen on it, and was over the moon when he found that I knew the piano part - he said that he hardly ever got chance to play it because he couldn't persuade any of his pianist friends to tackle it!)“Music is the best means we have of digesting time." — Igor Stravinsky

A most attractive and varied programme of Czech piano music beautifully played, I thought, by Christian Ihle Hadland. The Vorisek sonata was a real discovery for me, a work composed shortly before the composer's death at the tragically early age of 34. AND - an added bonus - it was introduced by Fiona Talkington ….

I like John Toal as a presenter. He has a gift for 'painting the scene' which a lot of music radio presenters seem to neglect these days (not only music radio presenters, either). Is BBC Ulster the only regional BBC station that features classical music programmes these days btw? We could certainly do with more. And the tune ends too soon for us all

A really lovely performance of Beethoven's Opus 70 No. 2 today. RTE supplies the BBC with music from the West Cork Festival. (Have you ever listened to RTE's Lyric FM, by the way? If you're tired of Radio 3, it's a better alternative than CFM in my view, and there's a 'full works' concert after lunch on weekdays).
I agree with you about John Toal, by the way.
